Aftercare

Maintenance and preservation for restored pieces.

The goal is not just to make a piece beautiful once. The goal is to help it keep its second life.

Past-client support

Small touch-ups, care questions, finish refresh discussions, and annual check-ins can be handled after the original restoration.

Workshop Guidelines

Care, cure times, and finish longevity.

Cure time vs. dry time

While fresh finishes feel dry to the touch within hours, waterborne enamels and polyurethanes require 21 to 30 days to achieve full chemical hardness. Treat surfaces gently during the first month and avoid placing heavy objects or rubber pads on fresh finish.

Safe cleaning & silicone avoidance

Avoid aerosol furniture polishes containing silicone (such as Pledge), which contaminate wood pores and prevent future finish adhesion. For everyday care, wipe with a barely damp microfiber cloth followed immediately by a soft, dry towel.

PNW seasonal wood movement

In the Pacific Northwest, damp winter humidity causes solid wood drawer runners and slides to expand. Rubbing ordinary paraffin wax or beeswax along wooden drawer slides prevents sticking without sanding down original joinery.

Touch-up & refresh review

Small surface marks, scratches, or wear can be reviewed from photos. Because we document finish formulas and colors, touch-ups blend cleanly with the existing surface character.

Still planning the finish?

Save the finish direction before you touch the piece.

DIY searches usually start with one problem. The next step is choosing whether the piece deserves a full restoration path, a careful repair, or a finish direction worth saving.
