How To Prepare Furniture For Restoration

Before a project can be reviewed clearly, the studio needs simple, useful information: photos, measurements, condition notes, and a sense of how you want the piece to feel.

Clean enough to see the surface

You do not need to deep clean the piece. Remove loose items, dust off heavy debris, and photograph it in decent light so scratches, finish wear, and hardware are visible.

Take the right measurements

Width, depth, and height help us understand scale, pickup planning, and the amount of prep or finish work involved.

Do not start sanding first

Many restoration mistakes begin with sanding before the material is understood. Photos should come first, especially with veneer, older finishes, or unknown coatings.
